YSL Rouge Pur Couture

YSL Rouge Pur Couture #09 Rose Stiletto & #19 Fuchsia £25/$36

If you know me, you’ll have probably gathered that I’ve never really been one for high end products over something I could scoop up for a fiver down the hughstreet. There have been exceptions to the rule, namely in the form of a cheeky Michael Kors contest win, and I do like to splurge a little when it comes to makeup staples that I know will stand the text of time. So when Voxbox slipped me an email saying they’d be sending out a YSL box to my door, I was a little excited. I’ve never owned anything YSL and, only a few short days after receiving the email, I was coveting two perfectly packaged Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks.

I don’t think anyone could contest that Yves Saint Laurent has some of the most decadent presentation when it comes to their beauty products. With this is mind, it comes as no surprise that to purchase one of these will set you back £25/$36. With the scary price tag in mind, I was a little hesitant at trying them out but what good is lipstick unless you rock it every now and again? I started with #09 Rose Stiletto, and was pleasantly surprised at the subtle floral scent initially, then truly impressed by how easily it applied. For someone who suffers from dry skin it has the unfortunate tendency to happen to my lips as well, so the hydrating formula did wonders. The colour is vibrant and long-lasting, but fairly easily smudged. It’s almost essential to line (and filly) your lips with lipliner before application, as it helps the colour last even longer and you’re not left with any awkward wear over the course of the day. The shade itself reminded me of something my grandmother would have worn at her most glamorous. Timeless, classy, yet with a modern twist that makes it perfect for the work place.

Emboldened by the first lipstick I reached for the second shade, #19 Fuchsia. A vibrant pink, this is something that probably isn’t for everyone, but a colour I can get down with. Having a few bright pinks in my MAC collection, this fit in rather nicely. I made note of the SPF15 protection which is becoming more of a concern for me now that I’ve relocated to California. That sunshine takes it’s toll on your skin and your lips are delicate, often getting forgotten about!

Do you own a YSL Lipstick? What do you think about it?
