imPress by Broadway Nails

impress-by-broadway-nails
imPress by Broadway Nails £5.99

What better time to test out a set of press on nails than with a trip away? Late October I visited San Francisco and knew I'd be rushing about so much that I wouldn't get a moment to get my nails done. So, I slipped a case of the imPress by Broadway Nails kits into my carry on luggage. A couple of days into chipped nail polish and in desperate need of a refresh, I pull the kit from my bag and get about prepping my nails to put them on. It's a simple process, simply pulling the tab and applying equal pressure for a few seconds to each nail individually. In as little as 5 minutes I've got a full set of French manicured nails that look as good as the real thing. Jump to me climbing Yosemite Falls, shooting guns at the range and fishing off Port Costa. I put them through the wringer for the time I had them on, and there were a few causality here and there. The wear time of 2 weeks I thought was fairly ambitious, but they were pretty great for a few days at the very least. If you're looking for nails for a night out or a big event, these are ideal. If you're looking for nails that stand the test of time? Then a traditional manicure route is always going to be your best bet. Let's face it, who can make false nails from a kit last longer than a few days? I absolutely adored the look of them and they were so handy to keep in my bag. They got a fair few compliments, and I'll be picking up a few  more packs for my upcoming trips.

What are your experiences of using press on nails? What brands do you recommend?

Roger & Gallet Laits Sorbet Body Lotions

Roger-and-Gallet-Laits-Sorbet-Body-Lotions
Roger & Gallet Lait Sorbets £14.00

I'll be honest, I'm crap with getting out the body lotion after a shower or a long, relaxing bath. My issue has always been that the benefits seemed such a long way off that putting in that extra 10 minutes hardly seemed worth it. Cue a monumental eureka moment of, "your skin looks like a 40 year old woman" and I've taken drastic action! Enter the slightly dreamy Roger & Gallet Lait Sorbets.

24 hour hydration was the main selling point for me. My skin gets so dehydrated that your average body butter just doesn't seem to cut it. I can apply first thing in the morning and my skin is still feeling silky smooth by the evening, which is more than I have ever asked for in a body lotion. The Bois d'Orange provides lifts the mood while the Gingembre stimulates the mind, so I can easily switch up my application based in my mood. The aloe vera and avocado oil soothes every inch of skin, which has been a real lifesaver when allergies flare up. The presence of meadowfoam oil means the lotion glides onto the skin and sinks in without hanging around making clothes stick and tempers rise. I've been able to get dressed immediately after application, negating the 'puppet' stance usually reserved for last minute fake tan! Additionally the micro-pearls leave a luminous glow to the skin, which is wonderfully subtle and does miracles under the Christmas lights!

Festive Spirit with The Body Shop

Festive-Spirit-with-The-Body-Shop

It's not just outfits we have to fret and fuss about on Christmas Day, but what we're going to adorn our faces with. This year, The Body Shop have ticked all my festive boxes!

Eyes dressed up with the Dolly Pastels Eye Palette £15.00 that's both feminine and eye catching. Suitable for contact lens wearers, this palette of 4 shimmery shades can go from Christmas lunch to drinks down the pub in a few minutes. The powders themselves are creamy and easily builadble which means you can go all out with a few brushes of the included applicator brush. Top off with the sparkliest Glitter Eyeliner in (hilariously) Sparkling £9 which is quick drying, packed with glitter and can be switched up for other uses too. I like to add this over my nail tips and apply a clear top coat for some Christmas nails in a flash. But when applied to the lash line, you'd better believe you'll stand out under the mistletoe this year. Then there's my favourite, the Lip & Cheek Doll £10. This is a limited packaging version that I can't get enough of on my dressing table! The stain is perfect for cheeks, it's so light and makes you look suitably flushed, and when applied to the lips can be just as striking. A little gloss over the top and BANG; Christmas lips in seconds.

What are you wearing this Christmas?

Winter Lipcare

Winter-Lipcare

With Christmas just round the corner and the shortest day of the year just past, I've been noticing how long this winter weather is feeling. My lips have been getting the brunt of the damage so I've thrown together a little winter Lipcare selection to keep them in tip-top condition.

If you're not a huge balm wearer, I feel you. I'm a nightmare when it comes to remembering to actually wear any, but this time of year I have to make sure I keep something in my back pocket. I have been loving the Balmi Lip Balm in Mint £4.99, it's perfect to pop onto my key ring so it's always within reach. It tingles on the lips and leaves them fully moisturised for hours afterward, the ideal 'I'm not a lip balm person' balm! Something with less clout is the trusty Smith's Rosebud Salve £8.50 which smells good enough to eat and doubles up in use for any other dry patches of skin across the body. How cute is that tin?

Envyderm do an Intensive Lip Renewal Therapy £28.95 that you can truly feel getting to work after just one use. I can't put it down and my lips have significantly improved since! Paired with the Envyderm Lip Volumizing and Conditioning Plumper £18.95 (I have the shade Coco), my lips have been on point since the cold weather set in. The sensation took a while to get used to, but I've grown rather fond of it and it becomes even more intense when exposed to the cold air. For a pop of colour with moisturising benefits, you can't get much better than LAQA & Co Lip Lube $18. Name aside, it lasts for hours and is conveniently small enough for nights out.

What are your favourite lip products when the weather has taken a turn for the worse?

December Birchbox 2014

December-Birchbox-2014

The December Birchbox has to be the best one I've received to date, least of all because it has the cutest collaboration with Sophia Webster, but mainly due to finally being able to try out a product I've been lusting over for months!

The mini sample of Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil is just such a product I've been eyeing up for the longest time. I've heard wonderful things about its healing properties and how it's transformed skin that was once thought beyond repair. I've been using this every morning on my red and slightly scarred areas, and I'm starting to notice the difference, so I'm most definitely investing in the full size! One more skincare item in the box was a sample of Eslor Firming Collagen Day Cream; soft skin is on the horizon! Age defence at its best, and as I'll be hitting the big 2-8 next year, I'm becoming all too aware of fighting off wrinkles and fine lines.

Makeup samples consisted of the gorgeous Eyeko Fat Eye Stick in Smoke that makes smokey and sultry eyes as simple as gliding the stick across your lash line and smudging out. And the coveted Benefit High Beam, hidden in the cutest Christmas cracker, that gives a youthful glow I haven't been able to find in anything else.

Throw in a sample of Electric Hair Electric Hydrate Shampoo, which made my hair feel like silk, a full size bottle of Models Own Nail Polish in Absinthe (I'm channeling my inner Elphaba with this one), rounded off with the cutest Sophia Webster branded purse and we've got one hell of a box this month.

What was your favourite sample from for December?
