Christmas Beauty Roundup
Tis the season to invest in make-up!
In winter we have more of everything; more layers, more rain, more helpings of comfort foods than we thought humanly possible. Winter is also a time for more make-up, it’s not as if we’re saying that you need to slap it on exactly but the cold weather is no friend to a good complexion. The thing about summer is that a couple of days on a beach in Croatia and you’re good to go with a hearty tan that will leave you looking fresh and healthy. So unless you’re one for the sunbeds (don’t do it) or you fancy running the risk of a dodge self-tan disaster, it’s almost impossible to recreate that naturally sun-kissed glow. So just accept that you’re going to have to get up about a half hour earlier in the morning for your new winter beauty regimen and that your bank balance is going to take a bit of a hit too! But it is Christmas time after all and everyone knows Christmas is about giving, so what’s the harm in giving something special to yourself? The gift of looking gorgeous! We’ve rounded up what we think are essential items for any winter make-up bag, so why not chuck out those foundation bottles that have leaked all over your lipsticks or that eyebrow pencil that is a barely-there stub. It’s time to invest! But if you’re still in need of a little extra advice, make sure to catch our Christmas Hangout with Shell Sullivan on Google+ this Thursday. The incredibly talented make-up artist will be talking us through her favourite looks for the season, and showing us her insider techniques.
The Body Shop Vitamin E Cool BB Cream - £13
The Body Shop isn’t just that place that you go to for kilos of mango body butter and coconut lip balms; they’re actually great for skincare. This cleansing Vitamin E BB cream is a make-up bag hero; it does everything from hydrating dry wintery skin to evening out a blotchy skin tone. This bad boy is great for giving a more illuminated glow to an otherwise dull complexion plus it’s super important to keep skin moisturized in winter so finding the perfect product is a must.
Benefit ‘That Gal’ Brightening Face Primer - £20
With about a thousand different companies out there saying that their products are ‘Miracles in a bottle’ it is difficult to find out what actually works. We’ve tried out pretty much most high street brands and Benefit’s ‘That Gal’ brightening primer really does what it says on the box. It leaves your face with a silky smooth appearance that leaves a radiant finish to combat grey dull winter complexions.
NARS Sheer Glow Foundation - £31
Now that your skin is primed and ready it’s time to think about more serious coverage. In winter sometimes dull skin might need a little more help from the experts, which is why we recommend NARS Sheer Glow foundation. With peach based undertones you’ll be left looking fresh and with a silky finish, but it also works to hydrate your skin. You can build up multiple layers depending on how much coverage you feel like you need.
Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge - £15
Nothing says winter beauty like the perfect rosy cheeks so this Pot Rouge by Bobbi Brown is the perfect addition to any make-up bag! Apply to the apples of your cheeks to give you a healthy glow, although this pink looks a little garish in the pot it comes out much more subtly and leaves you looking angelic!
Maybelline New York Fit Me! Pressed Powder - £5.99
Rather than trying to re-create this summer’s tan by pilling on the bronzer, instead why not accept your new paler complexion! There’s nothing wrong with a seasonal porcelain skin tone! This pressed powder from Maybelline New York will leave your skin with a much more natural finish but is also so light that it won’t leave your face with a chalky effect like some powders do. It also helps to keep your foundation and blusher in place all day!
Bobbi Brown Shimmer Wash Eyeshadow - £17
Christmas is the perfect time to indulge in all things glittery and shimmery, the perfect shimmery eye shadow is an absolute essential for the festive season. For a subtle but effective look wear one slick of this Bobbi Brown eye shadow on the lids of your eye and for something a little more dramatic add a few more layers for a really show stopping look. Perfect for the work Christmas party!
Ardency Inn Punker World’s Baddest Eyeliner - £12
This liquid eyeliner might have a bit of an interesting name but if you’re looking to re-create the perfect feline flick that would make Alexa envious then this is your ticket. This eyeliner pen is easy to use and can do thick and thin lines instantly and lasts all night, so no need to drunkenly re-apply on a night out!
B. Longer Lengthening & Defining Mascara - £9.99
You might think the best mascaras come courtesy from the designer brands but now that we’ve tried B Longer lengthening mascara we would beg to differ. This mascara is great for creating a truly dramatic look; we would recommend wearing a few layers when you first apply as it leaves your lashes so thick that it’s difficult to put more on later. The thing about this mascara is that it lasts for such a long time that you’ll wake up the next day and not need to apply more!
NARS Semi Matte Lipstick – Jungle Red - £16
Everyone has their favourite shade of Christmas lipstick and they will all be a variation on a theme; red! If you’ve not found your perfect hue yet then there’s still time; NARS have a fantastic range of colours for a beautifully festive pout!
