The Sunshine Award

The Sunshine Award | www.latenightnonsense.com

So it's Thursday, I've blogged every day since Monday, and I have one scheduled for tomorrow. I figured I'd throw in a fun little post which the lovely Bethany from Bethany Worrall tagged me in, as it seemed only right to do the full working week! It's really nice that Bethany wanted me to continue on the award, and I hope I do her proud.

This award is given to bloggers who 'brighten your day' and 'inspire' you to grow your blog and blossom as a blogger. The perfect way to lift a fellow bloggers mood, while elevating my own, it's a win-win.

The Rules
1. Thank the blogger who nominated you
2. Post the award logo on your blog
3. Nominate 5 blogs that you love
4. Share seven facts about yourself

The Facts
+ When I was much younger, my mum used to take my sister and I over to my aunts house where we would spend time with our cousins. Being three boys, a lot of the games we'd play appealed greatly to my tomboy side. My aunt had a helicopter pad in the garden at this point, which was on raised to garage level. The area below had a pop up pool when it was warm, so we took to jumping from the helicopter pad into the pool. Dangerous when I think back, but so worth it!

+ Unlike most little girls who liked pink, played with barbies and generally wanted to be a princess when they grew up, if you asked me what I wanted to be I'd only have one response. A Ninja Turtle. I was OBSESSED with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Any given opportunity and I was watching it, playing it or reading it. If there was face paints at a party, I can only imagine my mums despair as I came over to her sporting a particular shade of green and whatever colour bandana my Turtle of choice was at the time (for the record, my favourite is Donatello). As an example of how much I loved the show, I received a Barbie horse that came with special coloured crayons that you could decorate it with, for my birthday one year. Not even a few hours later, the horse was green and rocking a purple bandana across its eyes. Oh youth…

+ Megan (Little Miss Average) has been my best friend for over 10 years now, but we only officially met face to face last year. I frequented a message board in my youth, where I first became friends with her cousin which then led to us becoming friends. Lots of emails, instant messages and social media chat later and I was invited to her wedding. I bought my plane ticket to Raleigh, North Carolina half a year in advance and the whole week was amazing. She is such a wonderful person, enough for me to have flown home and booked 2 weeks holiday there only a few months later. It's now been over a year since I saw her last and it doesn't get easier with time.

+ I used to study Japanese in my spare time. I had programs, books, dictionaries, the lot. I still love the language, but don't have as much time for it anymore. I could read, write and speak to a basic level and was considering taking the first proficiency test. I've always wanted to visit, perhaps live there but my priorities have changed drastically since then.

+ I've been on American television before. On a college trip to New York City, our group was approached asking if we wanted to be in the background for a Good Morning America newscast. We had to get up ridiculously early the next day but had free breakfast and coffee and were given materials to make signs. Always something I'll remember!

+ When it came to my first words, I pushed the boat out. Not content with one word, I strung a sentence together, "Oh look, ball!". I was on the bus with my mum, pointed and spoke my first sentence. My mum will never let me forget it!

+ I've never stayed over at a festival before. I've done days at festivals but never done a full three day, tent experience. My first was going to be Coachella this year. I had the ticket, it was all paid for but I had no one to go with and the prospect of sleeping in a tent in the desert by myself in America didn't seem to appealing the closer it got to flight time. Luckily I sold the ticket on but do want to do a weekend festival at some point. I would have loved to do Bestival, especially as September 6th is my birthday, but maybe next year!

    1. Ah, now this is where the controversy is. The UK government wouldn't allowed 'Ninja' to be used in the title and used 'Hero' instead. All the marketing material had to be changed until the movies when I think they then allowed it to pass.

My thing was I had some time in New Zealand where I loved the show and it was called 'Nina' Turtles, so even when I went home I sang 'Ninja'. :)
