Sexy Summer Nails

Sexy Summer Nails | www.latenightnonsense.com

Painted nails and sunshine go together like cookies and milk, it's all a part of the summer experience. Not that we're getting much of it lately, but that's all the more reason to coax the sun out with some shockingly bright colours!

Recently I received Models Own Nail Polish in Bubblegum as part of Selfridge's Summer Beauty Box, which I haven't been able to keep off my nails. It's such a striking neon pink that seems to brighten with each passing hour after application. As with most polishes of this nature, it requires at least 2 coats but I gave this a third just to be sure I'd covered the nails entirely. This colour looks even better with a tan and has fantastic longevity when paired with a decent top coat.

Orange is fast becoming my favourite colour on my nails, as it lends itself quite nicely to bringing out the best in peach toned makeup, which I love. When I saw this Essie Nail Lacquer in Action I knew I had to add it to my collection, I didn't have anything like it. Once dried it looks a wonderful tangerine colour, but the consistency itself isn't ideal. It's quite watery and takes a fair few coats to cover the entire nail. I went up to four and could still see the whites of my nails underneath.

If you're looking for something to spice up your summer days, I would recommend both as long as you're determined enough to get the full colour pay off. Models Own Bubblegum is £5.00, available from Boots and Essie Action is £8.50 which you can get at beautybay.com.

What are your summer nail colours?

  1. I absolutely adore Essie polishes but sometimes I come across ones that don't always work amazingly. :(
I wish Models Own would be sold in Canada too. I see so many great polishes by them online but I can't get my hands on them!

    1. I think I've been lucky with Essie polishes up until this one as they've all been pretty good for coverage. I hate thin nail polishes, it seems like a false economy! Action leans a little to the thin side but the colour pay off was enough to make me adore it, just needs that extra few coats!

It wouldn't surprise me in Models Own bring out a range overseas soon, they're so unusual and the packaging is my favourite.

  2. You know my summer color! Essie's Turquoise and Caicos! Ugh, that color is so fantastic I'm practically drooling just thinking of it! Still can't believe we both painted our toes that color with absolutely no planning!

Was this the orange you were wearing last year or is it a different one? The one you wore last summer looked so lush on you! x

    1. I'm just thinking back to when we both took our shoes off and there is was, clear as day, we had chosen the same colour. Sisters from another mister for sure!

This is actually a different one, the one I was wearing last summer was a Models Own one in the Hed Kandi range called Beach Party. That one made my tan pop so much!

  3. This is a lovely picture here :)I love the look of the Essie polish but for £8 I hate the fact that they can be so streaky, how do they get away with that?!

I was looking at the bright polishes by Models Own today whilst in town, they look amazing!

    1. They are fairly expensive if you get a thin and streaky one, but I find they vary. This is my first watery formulation, and it wasn't as bad as it could have been, I just made sure to really take time between coats to let it set and I think that reduced the amount of coats and helped with steaks too. My great nan always used to say that you should never go over a nail more than three times. A good adage to stick to. ;)

It's that frosted bottle that gets me, how stunning do they look?!

  4. That Essie polish looks gorgeous! Shame about the streaky consistency but I've noticed the same thing with a couple of my Essie polishes, particularly the paler shades.

    Beautiful blog, by the way!!

    1. I think you learn to live with it for the end product, I really like the colour after I'd finished. It's an ever so slightly small niggle in the grand scheme of things. After all, with paler shades it's got to be quite hard to make them some out highly pigmented.

      Thanks for reading, Ellie.

    1. It just makes a tan pop! I wore a similar colour when the sun was out last and my tan just seemed darker, which was ideal!
