Just Peachy: Cream Blushes

Just Peachy - Cream Blush | www.latenightnonsense.com

You'd never know it, but I used to hate blush. I refused to wear it, and would look rather pale with my foundation and occasional use of bronzer and that's only if I was feeling it that day. Looking back, I cringe and weep a little for the rather uninformed girl I used to be. A few years later, a lot of makeup videos and lusting after some rather expensive products and I have myself a fairly respectable collection of blushes.

Cream blush is something I've latched onto with both hands and revolutionised the way I apply makeup. I thought I'd share a selection of my favourites that leave me with a peachy flushed smile every time.

First up, a product that I don't think I've stopped gushing about since I purchased it last month is Bourjois' Cream Blush in Healthy Glow, £7.99. It's slightly more orange than it's sister Nude Velvet, but leaves the cheeks with a real pearly finish that I just can't beat for everyday wear. If you're interested in what I have to say about the entire range I've written up an entire post about the Cream Blush launch.

Another product that makes my heart beat that little bit faster is Stila's Convertible Colour in Gerbera, £16.00. I find myself reaching for this time and time again as it's ideal for carrying around due to it's multipurpose use and large mirror. The colour reminds me of Illamasqua's Androgen Pigment but in a handier compact.

Last, but by no means least, is a little gem that was recommended to me by my mother. Seeing this beautiful colour on her cheeks prompted me to invest in Accessorise Cream Blush in Rose, £4.00. Not only is this a hugely affordable item, but has opened up my eyes to the makeup range by Accessorise in general. Highly pigmented and with massive staying power, I can't praise it enough. At the price, it's definitely worth the investment.

Do you have any peach blushes that you can't live without?

  1. I cannot live without my NARS Orgasm blusher! I love it! Totally brightens up my complex, leaving it bright and flushed!

    1. NARS Orgasm blush is a staple in my makeup bag. I found a really good dupe for it which I posted about not that long back!

  2. Embarrassingly I have to admit I used to be the same with blusher! Until a few years ago I would only ever wear it when my friend insisted on doing it for me before a night out. It's horrifying seeing the photos from back then and how washed out I looked!

What do you use to apply cream blushers with? I'm still not convinced after I tried one once and it really dragged my foundation about :( but I probably haven't got the technique figured out!

    1. I think blush is quite scary when you've never used it before, and teaching yourself is a daunting prospect. So glad I did though, I have the same awful nightmares of those pale skinned days!

I find that I'll either use a Real Techniques stippling brush, or if I'm rushed I'll take a little with my ring finger, rub it a little with my thumb to warm it up and blend it with my finger. I had the same problem with the foundation looking weird when I put on cream blush, and even some times powder blush if I buffed it too hard. The key is to set that part of your makeup with powder so it doesn't go anywhere. Takes a little bit of getting use to, but it's worth the effort. :)

  4. I still haven't tried cream blushers yet because I'm scared to but it looks like you've convinced me into giving them a try. I think I'm going to try the Stila ones first. I wish I could get the Bourjois ones too but I haven't seen them in my local drugstores in Canada yet.

    1. Stila is a great brand to dip your toe into the cream blush world. Peony is a wonderful colour to start with, just make sure to build the colour as it's a lot harder to take off blush than add more.

Thanks for the tip too! :)

  5. The only peach blush I've tried that looks good on my skin has been NARS's Orgasm blush. Usually peach blushes make me look a bit ruddy, but that one is so splendid on my skin that I wear it all the time! I think I want to take the step up next time and get Super Orgasm as I'm a sucker for the chunky glitter it has!

Also, I wanted to let you know that I nominated you for the Liebster Award! You can find out all the details here. If anyone deserves some recognition, it would be you! Love you, sweety! x

    1. Thanks Meg, that's really sweet. I'll make sure to do my questions when I get the chance over the weekend and schedule it in. :)

Super Orgasm needs to added to my collection, I just fear I'll only use it a handful of times as it's really only a nighttime blush. Perhaps I need to start going out more...?

    2. I think it could easily be worn during the day if you have a light hand and keep the rest of the face neutral so that you cheeks are the focal point of your makeup. Then again, I'm the kind of person who would wear crazy makeup just to run errands, so maybe I'm not the best judge of things! x

  7. I have to admit that I didn't wear any blushes before a couple of months back. What was even more scary is that I would wear dark liner and the rest of my face, if it was a good day, would have a hint of bronzer. I can't look back and not cringe! I've been really loving the cream blushes from NYX and really want to try the collection from Stila and Bourjous! xx

    1. Been there, it's scary what we think will work and then we look back at it and wonder why we thought it was a good idea. I'll chalk it up to experimentation. ;)

I really want to have some NYX products in my stash, but can never find them in Oxford.

  8. I've wanted to try Stila for a very long time now, I just need to choose which shade I want.

I have a powder blush by Accessorize, it's in the baked style and I really do like it, for the price I was quite impressed.

    1. You should, it's best to start out with a drug store brand one first just in case you find it doesn't work for you, but I think you'll be converted.

  10. Ooh I'm a sucker for a good peach blush! My favourite is the Maybelline Dream Touch Blush in 02 - Peach. I've heard a couple of people say it's a bit wishy washy, but I have quite pale skin, so I find it perfect for everyday use. xx

    1. Now that's a good tip, my skin isn't too pale but I do lean more toward the lighter side. I reckon I could build it up if I needed to. Thanks for the suggestion!

  11. I've been meaning to try out the Stila Convertible Colours for so long as I hear such good things, but I can never decide what colour to go for. Gerbera was near the top of the list though, so I think you may have swayed me!
